Dolly Parton’s Films Return to Theaters With a Charitable Twist: Here’s How to Watch

Dolly Parton fans will get another chance to see two of her biggest blockbusters on the big screen. AMC Theaters and Regal just announced a retrospective, following the queen of country’s tragic death on August 25 at age 80 from a brief battle with cancer.

Starting Friday, August 28, fans can see the 1982 musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and the 1989 drama Steel Magnolias at 200 AMC theaters across the country. Both movies will run through Wednesday, September 2.

Regal’s retrospective will run from August 29 through August 30. Fans can catch The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas on August 29 and Steel Magnolias on August 30. Tickets cost $9.25, and the proceeds from the Tennessee screenings will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library through the Governor’s Early Literacy Library.

Vikki Neil, Head of Marketing at Regal, said in a press release, “Dolly has always had such a special connection to Tennessee, and Regal is proud to offer our guests a way to come together and celebrate the impact she’s had on our state and around the world.”

Neil continued, “As a company with our own roots in East Tennessee, bringing two of her films back to theatres while supporting the Imagination Library felt like a meaningful way to honor how she never forgot where she came from, even as her impact reached far beyond it.”

Steel Magnolias features Parton as Truvy Jones, the warm, bubbly beauty salon owner. The iconic ensemble cast also includes Sally Fields, Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hanna, Olympia Dukakis, Tom Skerritt, Dylan McDermott, and Sam Shepard, as Parton’s on-screen husband.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is the cinematic adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. Parton plays Miss Mona Stangley, the warm-hearted owner of a Texas brothel. The country music legend re-recorded her 1973 smash “I Will Always Love You” for the film. Like the original, the movie track was also a hit, reaching the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart in October of 1982. Along with Parton, the star-studded cast includes Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Charles Durning, and Jim Nabors.
