The Coveted Hollywood EGOT Winners List Just Got 3 New Members — Including John Legend!

What a night! On Sunday, Sept. 9, the Creative Arts Emmy Awards made headlines like never before because the event added three majorly-deserving Hollywood icons to the coveted EGOT list. 

Singer, songwriter, and actor John Legend, lyricist Tim Rice, and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber historically became the 13th, 14th, and 15th EGOT winners ever last night. The impressive trio all took home Emmys to complete the achievement of winning all four of the major entertainment awards: an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. 

John, 39, Tim, 73, and Andrew, 70, all took home Emmy Awards at the Creative Arts Emmys for their involvement in bringing the beloved stage show Jesus Christ Superstar to the small screen with a live TV musical for NBC, which aired last April. 

John’s EGOT win is extra special because it’s record-breaking on two accounts. First, he’s one of the youngest ever EGOT winners at age 39 and, secondly, he’s the only African American man to achieve the honor. John previously won his first Grammy back in 2006 (he’s won a total of 10!), took home an Oscar in 2015 for his hit Selma song “Glory,” and won a Tony Award for 2017’s Jitney. As if that wasn’t enough, John also has a Golden Globe, two BET Awards, an American Music Award, two Billboard Music Awards, and two MTV Video Music Awards.
