A former child star known for her work in films such as The Ring and Lilo & Stitch has died. Daveigh Chase was 35.

According to TMZ, Chase died on June 16. The media outlet received confirmation on Chase’s devastating death from her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez.

Hernandez told TMZ that Chase died after having an infection in her blood and meningitis, which led to septic issues. In addition, TMZ noted, their sources indicated that Chase had been hospitalized in early June due to malnutrition.

A GoFundMe campaign appears to have been launched by Hernandez shortly before Chase’s death. Hernandez wrote, “When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserved. Together, we found moments of happiness and hope.”

Sadly, he added, her condition had become critical and “the doctors have told me she may not have much time left.”

Chase voiced the character of Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch and portrayed Samara Morgan in the 2002 horror film The Ring.

While most fans remembered Chase from The Ring, she had 50 acting roles before stepping away from the business in 2016. The last mainstream role she had, it appears, was in the series Big Love, where she played Rhonda Volmer in 32 episodes between 2006 and 2011.

It appeared that Chase had not been active on Instagram in several years, and TMZ noted that she had experienced some legal issues in recent years. According to what Hernandez wrote on the GoFundMe page, she had “faced more than her share of hardship.”

Hernandez wrote that Chase had “a difficult childhood and a painful falling out with her family.”

Fans have been sharing messages of condolences online after learning of Chase’s death.

On Reddit, one fan wrote, “She was part of so many childhood memories. Gone far too soon.”

“She has an amazing resume for such a young actress. To get sick and die like this is so tragic,” added another.

“This actually hit me like a truck. May she rest in peace and her loved ones remain strong,” someone else commented.
