Could the next entertainment hit start on TikTok before making its way to the big screen?
SuperLab is betting that audiences are ready for exactly that. Its new original series, Caldwell Academy, has generated 3 million TikTok views in just five days following its October 8 launch, and the studio has already completed a 60-minute feature-length version that is now in distribution negotiations.
The series follows Eden Clarke, a student president at an elite boarding school, and Beckett Langford, the school’s star lacrosse player. After the two are sentenced to a month of detention together, their rivalry begins to turn into an enemies-to-lovers romance — with secrets, ambition and betrayal threatening to derail them along the way.
It’s a familiar recipe for teen drama, but the way the story reaches its audience is distinctly modern.
Instead of launching as a traditional television series, Caldwell Academy debuted as a 44-episode microseries on TikTok. The format delivers the story in short installments, while the completed feature-length cut gives the project another potential route to audiences through traditional distribution.

The series is also being developed with a longer future in mind, with season two scheduled to shoot in early 2027.
Grace Swanson created the series for SuperLab and stars as Eden Clarke, with Noah Fearnley playing Beckett Langford. The cast also includes Molly Anderson, Mariah Moss, Griffin Winters, Shane Porter, Adam Santa Cruz and Josi Raya. Santa Cruz wrote the series, and Thomas Pallier directed.
“Everyone has a picture in their head of what a microdrama looks like. Caldwell isn’t that,” Pallier said. “Grace built a world with real stakes, and we shot it like a prestige series. The phone isn’t a smaller screen. It’s a closer one.”
For SuperLab, the series is part of a broader strategy to build entertainment that can live across screens. The creator-led studio, which operates under SuperOrdinary, develops original series and premium branded content for audiences across TikTok, YouTube and Meta. Its social series have generated more than 300 million views.
The studio has also brought its storytelling approach to brand partnerships. Its Crocs collaboration, Déjà Shoe, is a seven-episode TikTok microdrama that integrated TikTok Shop product tagging, allowing viewers to shop featured products within the series. Other branded projects include work for Laneige and MCoBeauty.
The combination of entertainment and commerce is a key part of SuperLab’s wider work, but Caldwell Academy puts the spotlight on the studio’s original storytelling ambitions.
The series will screen at the inaugural ALZA Festival in New York on Saturday, October 17, at 1:45 p.m. at AMC 19th Street East 6, followed by a Q&A with Swanson and Pallier.
With millions of early views, a feature-length version in distribution negotiations and another season planned, Caldwell Academy offers a glimpse at how a story born on social media could have a life beyond it.
The series is streaming now on TikTok at @superlab_, with additional behind-the-scenes footage available through SuperLab’s YouTube series, Lab Notes.
