‘General Hospital’ Fans Are Still Clamoring For This Character’s Return

It’s been more than two years since General Hospital’s Spencer Cassadine went overboard on a boat on the River Seine, never to be seen again. At the time, many fans expected that Spencer’s fall was just a way to write the character off for a few months while actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez worked on another project, but the exit turned out to be permanent — for now, at least.

General Hospital’s Spencer Vanishes

Spencer was all set to move to France so his girlfriend, Trina (Tabyana Ali), could study art at the Sorbonne, but their initial trip to the European country didn’t go quite as planned. Spencer’s crazy ex-girlfriend, Esme Prince (Avery Pohl), had followed Spencer and Trina to France, intent on destroying the pair, who didn’t even know amnesiac Esme had gotten her memory back.

One night, Spencer arranged a surprise romantic dinner for Trina on a Parisian riverboat, but Esme was also on board, ready to drug Spencer and use him as leverage to get her infant son, Ace, back. A one-night stand with Spencer’s father, Nikolas, produced Ace, and that time, Nikolas had the baby.

Sadly, a struggle ensued on the deck, resulting in Esme and Spencer both falling overboard, never to be seen again. However, since their bodies were never recovered, fans still hold out hope that Spencer will return and rebuild his romance with Trina. While GH fans understand that Chavez has moved his career away from soaps, having starred in such limited series as Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and Grotesquerie, per IMDb, they would not mind another actor in the role.

“I would love Spencer to be recast. Trina is in desperate need of something to shake her up cause her story with Kai is sooooo boring,” another fan said, making note of the fact that Trina’s new romance with former football player Kai Taylor hasn’t really taken off.

“Love Spencer so would certainly like to see him return. Less for romance, more because we need Cassadines!” one Reddit user wrote, referencing the fact that various Cassadines have been written off the soap in recent years.

Another fan, echoed that sentiment, believing Spencer can bring Cassadine soapiness back to the canvas: “I oh my gosh have to have him back. We need the next generation Cassadine to head home to Port Charles and be the powerful strong Cassadine perfect chaos that Cassadine are.”
