General Hospital’sKirsten Storms has opened up about what’s been keeping her from Hollywood for months with a revealing update on her life from the perspective of a child star.
Kirsten Storms is Choosing Her Path
Storms took to Instagram on Sunday evening with a long, emotional update about why she has chosen to stay out of the Hollywood spotlight and change her life in Tennessee, harkening back to her life as a Disney child star. S
he began her career in 1995 at the age of 11, with her first screen credit being the TV show All That, per IMDb.
In 1999, she famously became Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century in a series of Disney TV movies. A role as Belle Black on Days of our Lives followed, from 1999 to 2004. Straight from her stint on DAYS, Storms took on the role of Maxie Jones on GH, which she has played until this year. Storms took a hiatus from the soap late last year to move to Tennessee, so Maxie lapsed into a coma.

She awoke in February, and Storms made a handful of appearances when Maxie returned to her family, but she is now off with Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) and her daughters in the Grand Canyon while Storms takes another break. In her Instagram update, she admitted that choosing to move was the right path for her, as her Hollywood path was not one she chose.
“I still feel that the move to Tennessee was the best choice for me,” Storms wrote. “I might not be at the *best part* of this choice yet, but LA never felt like my real home. I’m grateful and really f*ing proud of the accomplishments I’ve achieved during my acting career, however my career started before I was out of elementary school.”
In the post, which also reveals a short and sassy brunette look, Storms went on to explain that she was envious of people who worked in what she called the “real world,” because the world she was in was what her parents wanted.
“My life in California (and work there) was chosen for me at a young age,” she continued. “Have I been lucky to maintain employment in this industry, since my parents relocated us from Florida – with the sole intention that I become an actor? Hell yes. I’m proud of myself for handling the majority of that on my own…but that life became the ONLY thing I knew how to do. Or thought I was capable of.”
Storms’ Message About Her Daughter
When Storms became a parent to daughter Harper, now 12, things began to change for her. She briefly mentioned her medical situation, which has included multiple brain surgeries, as well as a brain aneurysm as recent as December of 2025, as she explained in this post. She admitted her ongoing issues have made her re-evaluate her life.
“I swear I’m not going to continue to bring up my medical situation (I’ll make jokes and it will be awkward),” she continued in her Sunday evening post, adding, “but until I began to understand how precious time is and how what we prioritize becomes ALL we have, there was never a thought that my life would ever change.”

Storms also made sure to address her legal situation with ex-husband Brandon Barash (ex-Stefan/Jake, DAYS; ex-Johnny, GH), regarding their daughter, Harper. In April, TMZ reported that Barash had obtained a restraining order against Storms, citing “instability with housing” as one cause for concern.
“I would appreciate (and encourage) for people on here not to worry about me, or think there is something larger going on, other than 2 ex-spouses dealing with a ‘disagreement’, that WILL be resolved,” she said.
She also asked that fans keep her daughter’s and and modern technology in mind. “I appreciate the supportive comments, but now that my daughter is of the age where she will Google her name while riding the bus to school, I’m asking that the speculation on this issue please stop.”
Storms ended her post on a positive note, acknowledging the new look in her selfie, saying that she “kinda dig[s] it.”
