The snub of the century! Glenn Close still holds the record for most Oscar nominations and no wins after she lost the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role to The Favourite‘s Olivia Colman at the 2019 Oscars on Sunday, February 24. Her nomination for The Wife was her seventh Academy Award nod but she’s sadly never won.

Winning actress Olivia, 45, even paid homage to her Glenn, 71, during her speech, proving that the beloved actress’ loss was totally an upset. “To be in this category with these extraordinary women, Glenn Close, you’ve been my idol for so long and this is not how I wanted it to be,” Olivia gushed as Glenn smiled and laughed in her seat. “I think you’re amazing, I love you very much.”

Although her amazing performance in The Wife didn’t win her an Oscar, Glenn sure did look like a winner at the 91st Academy Awards. Dressed perfectly for the awards show, she donned a stunning 42-pound sparkly gold gown that looked almost identical to the Oscar statuette. Adorned with over four million beads — which we assume is to blame for its weight! — the gorgeous ensemble featured a tuxedo-like bodice along with sleeves and a glittery cape.

This past December, the Fatal Attraction actress told People that she’d be over the moon to finally win an Oscar, but she’d embrace holding the unique record if not. “First of all, how thrilling that would be,” she gushed to the outlet. “I’ve survived in this business for what, 43 years? Then it becomes kind of great to never win in a way, I guess.”

Plus, she’s not usually one to get her hopes up anyways. “I’m a pragmatic Yankee and I’ve forced myself to not believe in anything until it happens,” she said. “[The Wife] is a little independent film! No one wanted to make a movie called The Wife. Most of the money came from Europe.”

Although Glenn did not take home the award for her role tonight, she still has a lot to be proud of. Making waves this awards season, she brought home awards from the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards, the Independent Spirit Awards and the Critic’s Choice Awards. You’re still a winner in our books, Glenn!
