If anybody knows a thing or two about balancing work and family, it’s Giuliana Rancic. Giuliana, who’s mom to five-year-old son Duke, doesn’t only count hitting up the red carpet for E! as her day job — the 43-year-old stunner is also a best-selling author, fashion designer, restauranteur, and winemaker. So yeah, you could say her day-to-day schedule is pretty jam-packed. But we get the feeling she wouldn’t have it any other way.

In October, as she teamed up with the NFL for their Homegating campaign, Closer Weekly spoke with Giuliana about how she manages the almost-mythical work-home life balance, and why she gravitates towards certain projects when she already has such a full plate. “When the NFL calls, I pick up!” the reality star told Closer exclusively. “I like the idea of Homegating, where you can basically bring the celebration, the rituals, the traditions of tailgating to the comfort of your home and I’m all about that. I love fashion, I love decor — so the fact that I got to work with the NFL and come up with fun ideas to Homegate was just such a pleasure.”

Hear that, Moms? When deciding whether or not a task or project is worth taking time away from your family, ask yourself if it’s something you really love and feel passionate about. Otherwise, it may not be worth it. Of course, while Giuliana is fortunate enough to be able to pick and choose who she works with, she also needs to, you know, work. And, as any working mother will attest to, putting in a full day at the office when you’ve also got a family at home is no easy feat.

That said, Giuliana has her system down. “Women are busier than ever these days; we all have so much going on, but when I’m at a work, I’m at work, and when I’m home, I’m home,” Giuliana told Closer. “When I’m with my son, I don’t look at my phone. I’m very engaged. I give 100 percent to family when I’m with my family, but when I’m at work, I give 100 percent to work. I don’t sit at my computer making a photo album of pictures, I’m focused.”

Giuliana added that a piece of advice she always gives working moms is to focus on the task at hand. “When you’re at work, give it 100 percent of your time and energy. Don’t talk to friends, be on your phone, shop online — just work. That way, when you get home, you don’t feel guilty. You can say to yourself, ‘I put in a good day’s work and now I can focus on my family.'”

Of course, there are days when best-laid plans are just that and Giuliana knows that when that happens, you have to just roll with it. “If Duke has a fever or my family needs a lot from me on a particular day, I’ll still go to work, but make my family the focus of my day – or maybe I’ll need to stay home from work,” the breast cancer survivor told Books for Better Living in 2015.

Giuliana also makes sure to get a lot of quality time in with her husband, Bill Rancic, and son on the weekend if it was a particularly hectic week at work. “If I find that I’m working a lot during the week, then I’ll make sure that the weekend is family all the time. That’s how I make it work. And I don’t feel bad about it! I realize that it’s unrealistic to balance everything every day. So I focus on family or career each day.” Sage advice for working mothers if there ever was any. Now, put away those phones, mamas, and get to work!
