Kate Hudson Reveals She’s Raising Baby Daughter Rani Rose With a ‘Genderless’ Approach
Though she’s a mom to three kids, Kate Hudson has revealed she’s doing things a bit differently when it comes to parenting her newest child, 3-month-old daughter Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa. “[Having a daughter] doesn’t really change my approach, but there’s definitely a difference. I think you just raise your kids individually regardless — like a genderless [approach]. We still don’t know what she’s going to identify as,” the 39-year-old actress told AOL in a recent interview.
“I will say that, right now, she is incredibly feminine in her energy, her sounds and her way. It’s very different from the boys, and it’s really fun to actually want to buy kids’ clothes,” she continued. “With the boys, it was just onesies … actually, I did pretty good with the boys. But with her, it’s a whole other ball game. There’s some stuff that I’m like, ‘I can’t do that to her, because it’s so over-the-top.'”

Kate credited her own childhood and the fact that she grew up with three brothers for inspiring her to raise Rani Rose with a “genderless” approach. “I was a tomboy in a spinning dress. My middle brother, [Boston Russell], who is closest to me in age, was basically my sister because I put makeup on him all the time, and I’d dress him up and he loved it,” she said. “But growing up as a girl with all boys, you end up with a thick skin. You really do,” Kate explained. “People say, ‘Oh, your brothers must’ve really protected you.’ And I’m like, ‘They threw me right into the fire!'”
Kate is now a mom-of-three — her older children are sons Ryder Robinson, 15, and Bingham Bellamy, 7 — but she may not be done expanding her family quite yet. During a recent Today show appearance, the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star revealed she wants to give her boyfriend Danny Fujikawa “his own boy.”
“At one point I was like, ‘Oh, maybe I’m done.’ And then I met Danny and was like, ‘Alright, I got to pump them out for him.’ He needs a boy. He needs his own boy,” she said. Guess we’ll have to wait and see if Kate and Danny are up for baby No. 2!
