Kathy Griffin Addresses “Disgusting” Rumor She Was Gunning for Joan Rivers’ Job

Calling the late Joan Rivers her "mentor," comedienne Kathy Griffin was eager to clear up rumors claiming she was trying to get Joan's Fashion Police job while the 81-year-old was in a coma.

“It’s disgusting. It’s not true," the famous red-head said in response to the NY Post article that published the information. "And I know that stuff shouldn’t bother me at this stage of my career — you know, I thought I’d heard it all, but that one hurts, because it’s as far from the truth as you can get.”

Holding back tears, Kathy fondly remembered the entertainer on Larry King Now, sharing, “My mission that I’ve assigned to myself is to really shine a light on the part of her legacy that people may not be aware of.

“Her true legacy of being a woman who made history over and over and over, and in my opinion didn’t really get that credit, and I think she’s getting it now,” the 53-year-old added.

Kathy also recalled some of Joan's most poignant advice to her: “She said ‘It’s just different for us,’ and when you’re a girl comic — we always refer to ourselves as girl comics — you have to work harder and jump higher.”
