Disgraced ‘Today’ Show Host Matt Lauer Will Not Receive Salary Payout (REPORT)

In the midst of being fired after a sexual misconduct scandal, there is more bad news for Matt Lauer. The disgraced former Today show host will not be receiving a payout on his $20 million contract with NBC after reports claimed that his lawyers were fighting for him to receive the remainder of his salary even though he was fired on Wednesday, Nov. 29 for allegedly sexually harassing his female co-workers at NBC.

As Closer previously reported, Matt signed a contract in 2016 in which he negotiated a $20 million a year salary— and since the contract terms last only two years, it was set to expire at some time in mid-2019. His lawyers came up with the sum of $30 million that he would be owed by NBC after his firing, according to the New York Post‘s Page Six. But the network is reportedly refusing any sort of payout.

“[Matt] will not be paid past his last day of work,” a senior NBC News source told CNN Money. The insider didn’t deny that Matt’s lawyers would try to fight for him to receive a payout, and the source was adamant that the network would not budge on their decision.

Insiders claim that the reason why NBC will be able to fire Matt before his contract was up without a payout is because most contracts include a morality clause in which the company has the right to terminate an employee’s contract if they violate that clause in any way.

“There is no way Matt is getting paid,” a source told Page Six. “There has been an irrevocable breach of Matt’s contract, there is a moral clause that says if he brings the company into disrepute — which he clearly has — NBC can terminate his employment immediately without pay and they do not have to pay out his contract.”
