Too funny! Kelly Clarkson could not keep her cool while meeting her idol, Meryl Streep, for the first time at the 2018 Golden Globes earlier this month — and now, the singer has admitted Meryl was “totally freaked out” by her eagerness to chat with her at the award show!
While speaking to Ryan Seacrest at the 2018 Grammys on Sunday, Jan. 28, Kelly 35, confessed, “She is totally freaked out by me… I don’t care. I love the moment, I love her.” The mom-of-two then admitted their introduction was “amazing,” adding, “[Meryl] touched my face.” Ryan then gave Kelly a throw pillow with a photo of Kelly and Meryl on it — and, of course, the “Love So Soft” songstress loved the special gift! “This is totally going on our bed. My husband won’t care. I love her,” Kelly gushed.
During another recent interview with the Television Critics Association, Kelly joked she was “humiliated” by the video of herself meeting Meryl at the Golden Globes when she later saw the clip. “I was very excited, and I hope I don’t lose that excitement, just being a true fan of people. But she’s Meryl Streep ya’ll! Everybody would’ve looked like a jackass-s. She touched my face y’all!” she said.
While walking the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday, Jan. 7, Kelly was finishing up her chat with Ryan when she turned and walked down the steps and subsequently let out a huge gasp. “That’s Meryl!” the American Idol alum exclaimed at the time. But Ryan was confused at first. “My heart just stopped. I thought you just tripped down the stairs,” he said. Kelly then asked Meryl, “Oh, my God, can I meet you? I’m such a fan! I’ve adored you since I was, like, eight!”
Of course, Meryl couldn’t have been more willing to meet Kelly! She happily called Kelly over and the two shared a sweet hug. Though The Post star is obviously a seasoned award show veteran, the 2018 Golden Globes was Kelly’s first time at the fancy award show. “I hear we can drink at this event, so I’m very excited,” she joked to Ryan on the event’s carpet. “That’s why I’m invited!” We love you, Kelly!
