Olivia Newton-John had some dark theories about the disappearance of her ex-boyfriend, Patrick McDermott.
The Grease star had an on-again, off-again relationship with McDermott at the time of his disappearance off the coast of Los Angeles during an overnight fishing trip 21 years ago in 2005. The mystery of what happened to him has never been solved.
In the book A Little More Love: The Life and Legacy of Olivia Newton-John, author Matthew Hild interviewed some of the late actress’ friends who revealed her blunt thoughts on the matter concerning the former cameraman, who she was not dating at the time.

According to Olivia’s friend Liona Boyd, “She thought he’d been killed. She thought he drowned. She didn’t believe all the rumors about the sightings in Mexico. She said, ‘No, I don’t believe that,’” the book reads, per People.
Page Six reports that there were always rumors and speculation surrounding McDermott’s disappearance at age 48, including that he staged the entire thing and simply ran away to Mexico to avoid financial problems related to a divorce from his previous wife, actress Yvette Nipar.
Per the outlet, private investigator John Nazarian claimed in 2016 that he saw McDermott in Mexico well after he was reported missing alongside a woman he described as having a German accent.
Despite rumors, the US Coast Guard concluded its investigation into McDermott’s disappearance in 2008, stating only that he had been lost at sea.
