Oscar-Nominated Actress Says She’s ‘Lucky to Be Alive’ After Serious Car Accident
Minnie Driver reveals she survived a serious car accident in Paris, feeling lucky to be alive while recovering at home.
Good Will Hunting star Minnie Driver is being flooded with messages of support from fans after revealing she had been in a serious car accident. In an emotional social media post, Driver admitted she felt “lucky to be alive” after the incident, which left her wearing a neck brace.
Driver shared a video on Instagram with a lengthy caption. In her video, the Speechless star became emotional as she explained that just a few days ago, she and her friend Ben got into a bad car accident.
“We somehow walked out of it,” Driver shared. She then clarified that they didn’t exactly “walk” out of the accident. Rather, she explained, “We crawled out of it. But we did get out of it alive.”
The actress has a sprained neck and is dealing with big emotions and shock, but she is otherwise doing relatively well. Toward the end of the video, she showed a photo of the car after the accident, as well as a picture showing her with Ben walking down a hospital hallway. Ben also wore a neck brace.
In the caption, Driver wrote, “Shout out to the van driver who stopped and helped us before the ambulances arrived.”
“Special mention to the car who slowed down took in the scene and drove off without stopping. I guess this is the Dao of the world, the light and the dark,” Driver continued.
She shared that she keeps replaying the accident in her mind, which she finds difficult but likely necessary as she tries to process it all. The Circle of Friends star has also shed tears, which she admitted feels both helpful and good.
Before revealing news of her car accident, Driver’s most recent Instagram posts had been updates from her summer in Paris. She has been working, but making time for some adventures too.
Driver’s post was flooded with support from her followers.
“Even lying in bed injured you are still effervescent. Sending you strength and wishes of good health. Please allow the tears to flow, it’s the best therapy,” one fan wrote.
Another commented, “Physical stuff aside, please be gentle with yourself and take the time to honor your emotions…whatever they are and whenever they come.”
Driver told fans she had never been in a car accident before, and this one left her quite rattled. The Good Will Hunting star said she was grateful to be alive, and though thoroughly shaken by the experience, she seems to be headed toward a full recovery.
