It’s been a little over five years since fans got news from Paul McCartney about a new album, but today’s their lucky day.
The legendary Beatles star, 83, has announced his next album, The Boys From Dungeon Lane, will hit the shelves on May 29.
“With The Boys of Dungeon Lane, Paul McCartney turns the lens inward, revisiting the formative years that shaped not only his life, but the very foundations of modern popular culture,” a press release announcing the news reads. “In a career defined by timeless storytelling and unforgettable characters, Paul now tells the most personal story of all, his own. The Boys of Dungeon Lane is his most introspective album to date and takes the listener back to where it all began.”
The first single off the album, “Days We Left Behind,” is available to listen to now, and it’s an emotional tune focusing on McCartney’s younger days.
“Nothing ever stays/Nothing comes to mind,” he sings on the track. “No one can erase/The days we left behind.”

“This is very much a memory song for me,” McCartney said of the song, per the press release. “The album title, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past but then I think, ‘How can you write about anything else?’”
He added that the track is rooted in his upbringing in Liverpool, recalling “a lot of memories” from his childhood, including time spent on Forthlin Road and moments with “John” — a likely nod to John Lennon during their early songwriting days.
“I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class,” McCartney continued. “We didn’t have much at all but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much.”
The full album will be available for purchase on May 29.
