Savannah Guthrie Reveals If She Plans to Leave ‘Today’ After Hoda Kotb’s Exit: ‘I’m Open’

Savannah Guthrie admitted she was “heartbroken” after Hoda Kotb announced she would be leaving Today but will the newscaster follow her colleague out the door?
Savannah, 53, opened up in an interview about whether or not she plans on leaving the talk show after seeing Hoda pursue other interests.

“What I know now is that I have the best job with the best people, both on camera and behind the scenes,” she told Us Weekly in an interview published on Wednesday, February 26. “We’re doing important work and [it’s] fun. Who knows what the future holds? I’m open, but I’m pretty darn happy.”

Savannah was also asked if she thinks Hoda, 60, misses being on Today following her January 10 departure from the show.

“I texted her [recently] and was like, ‘Are you still getting up at this hour?’ And she writes back, ‘Yes.’ I bet she misses all of us, but she’s really happy.”

Despite not cohosting the program together anymore each morning, Savannah and Hoda’s friendship is stronger than ever. In fact, Hoda surprised Savannah at her book signing for the children’s book Mostly What God Does Is Love You in New Jersey on Tuesday, February 25. They both shared photos and videos from the event on Instagram, wrapping their arms around each other in a big hug.

“I thought I was hallucinating. It made me feel so good,” Savannah said of the unexpected surprise during an episode of Today on Wednesday, February 26. “It was just amazing. It’s so, so sweet and so, so her.”

Additionally, she and Hoda recently bumped into each other while vacationing in Palm Beach, Florida, with their friends and families.

“Oh, and a bonus @hodakotb sighting for a little extra (sunshine emoji),” Savannah captioned an Instagram photo with Hoda on February 19.

Savannah began cohosting Today’s early morning hours with Craig Melvin after Hoda left the show.

In addition to her friendship with Hoda, Savannah also told Us Weekly about how her bond with Today colleague Jenna Bush Hager first started.

“We were neighbors first,” the mom of two, who shares kids Vale, 10, and Charley, 8, with husband Mike Feldman, told the outlet. “We literally lived next door to each other, and our kids went to the same school. We had this precious time of being in and out of each other’s houses every day. Her little boy [Hal, 5] is my godson, and our husbands are buddies and we go on trips together. It’s been just a wonderful surprise of life.”

Jenna, 43, shared kids Mila, 11, Poppy, 9, and Hal with husband Henry Hager. Savannah often shares photos hanging out with Jenna and her family on Instagram.

Along with her relationships with her colleagues, viewers can always count on Savannah for her dedication to the program. When asked what she hoped her legacy on Today would be, she remarked, “I’ve never been asked that question. It’s exciting — and it also means I’m old! I don’t know. I hope it’s taking good care of the show in the moments that I got to have my hands on it.”
