Selma Blair Says Son Arthur Has Had to ‘Endure’ A Lot During Her MS Battle But Remains Positive: ‘Mommy’s Brave’

After revealing to the world that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in October 2018, Selma Blair has made it very clear that she is not alone in her battle, as her friends and family have supported her through it all — especially her son, Arthur.

“He’s had to endure a lot; he’s seen a lot,” the 47-year-old told People in a recent interview, including watching her fall down stairs or rush to a bathroom if she’s feeling sick. However, even with that, the 7-year-old doesn’t see his mom’s condition has a downfall. “He says, ‘Mommy’s not sick. Mommy’s brave,'” the actress revealed to the outlet.

In fact, her little one is all about his mom hanging out at school with him. “He said, ‘I love when you come to school because you make the kids laugh and you answer all their questions,’” the Cruel Intentions costar said, adding that she tries not to shy away from explaining to the kids about why she “walks and talks funny.”

“I explain what’s happening and that my voice doesn’t hurt, and we have really decent exchanges,” the mother-of-one said. “I had no idea Arthur was proud of that. I thought ‘I’m probably an embarrassment,’ but to know I’m not was one of my proudest moments.” Selma shares her only son with her ex, Jason Bleick — the pair are incredible coparents.

“We have a flexible custody arrangement and Jason is a huge part of Arthur’s life,” the star said. “He’s shown up in a big way. I’m really proud of us.” This isn’t the first time that Selma has talked positively about her ex, as she shared quite the post this past Father’s Day.

“Arthur’s dad. He will always know the love of his dad. And his mom. My dad loved me too,” Selma captioned a photo of her and her ex in a together. “But I never really felt the closeness. Circumstance. Or the people we were. He died without meeting my son. But we had a plan for it. But … My son met him in his casket. A stranger. His grandfather.”

She continued, “I still feel unresolved miscommunication. Impossible moments. But this man next to me. Arthur’s father … we love our son so big and our son knows. “So we are doing just fine. While Arthur is clearly pulling for his mother, Selma recently explained how determine she is to reach her goals. “I count on the spirits of this world more than I ever thought. Thank you. This journey is a realization about the breaths around me. More than even my own. I need you. I need this boy to see me do things I never thought I could,” Selma wrote in a post. “And I will do my best.
