Terri Irwin Remembers Day Late Husband Steve Proposed to Her at a Zoo: ‘Love Is Forever’

He’s always on her mind. Terri Irwin still recalls the day her late husband Steve Irwin proposed to her, and she recently shared that memory with all of her fans.

“It was 28 years ago today, here at @AustraliaZoo that Steve asked me to marry him,” the 55-year-old wrote via Twitter alongside a beautiful photo of the pair. “Life is constantly changing. Love is forever.” People were all about the sweet post, as they took to the comments section to respond.

“Yes, constant change and yes, love is forever. The world misses Steve and we thank you and your children for keeping his memory alive with the work you do,” one fan sweetly said. Another added, “What an awesome person you found and such a beautiful person he found! Cheers to you on earth and cheers to Steve in heaven looking down on what a great family he has!”

Terri and Steve tied the knot in 1996. They would go on to have two kids — daughter Bindi, 21, and son Robert, 16. Steve would pass in 2006 after a tragic accident while filming in Australia.

This is not the first time that the conservationist has looked back on her time with her love, as she has been quite open about it in the past. Terri once revealed that the famous pair almost did not have any little ones. “When we got married, Steve said, ‘I’m just an action man. I don’t know how we would ever have kids.’ And I didn’t feel strongly one way or another,” Terri recalled to People. “But after almost six years of marriage, he burst through the door one evening and said, ‘We’ve got to have children! Who do we leave all this to? Who will carry it on?’ I go, ‘Just because you have kids doesn’t mean they’re going to want to do what you do.’ And he said, ‘Oh, they will. They definitely will.'”

Today, Terri is focused on the family’s zoo, as well her kids children — her eldest will soon be married to Chandler Powell, as the pair announced their engagement in July 2019. “I am so very happy, and I know Steve would be too,” Terri wrote at the time.
