‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Fans Cry Foul at Dylan’s Gold Digger About-Face
B&B fans reject attempts to paint Dylan as a gold digger, defending her selfless character while questioning the show’s push to polish unpopular Electra.
The Bold and the Beautiful fans have fallen in love with Melissa Dylan (Sydney Bullock), the art teacher “free spirit” who came onto the scene a year ago and has undergone a host of transformations since. Throughout those transformations, one thing about Dylan remained true: She was kind and selfless. Now, the soap seems to want to paint her as the villain, and fans don’t buy it.
B&B Changes Its Tune on Dylan
Despite being homeless and having no job, no money, and no place to go, Dylan left her safe haven above Will Spencer’s (Crew Morrow) garage when her best friend, Electra (Laneya Grace), thought it wasn’t proper for a single woman to be living in such proximity to her boyfriend. Electra’s insistence that her homeless friend go back to living in her car was the first sign that Electra might not be the pure and perfect heroine that she had been portrayed as for over a year.
Currently, fans see Electra as one of the least-liked characters on the show, with some wondering if the shift to hinting that Dylan is a gold digger who only wants Will Spencer for his money is a way to make Electra look good. After scenes in which Will’s mom, Katie (Heather Tom), accused Dylan (while using her first name, Melissa) of purposely coming between Will and Electra, fans were fuming.
“They turned Electra into a GOLD DIGGER OVERNIGHT TO PROP ELECTRA?” one fan asked, incredulously.
Another fan made a point about Electra’s slap proving Dylan isn’t after Will for his money, saying, “If Dylan was a gold digger, she would have sued Forrester for being physically assaulted on the job by that insufferable baby Electra.”
Others could barely believe that Katie was defending Electra, a girl who dumps Will every other Tuesday, as Will aptly pointed out.
“OMG! Has Katie ever spent ANY time with drama Electra?! Ever! This is bs and gaslighting us. I’m a Dylan fan 100%!” one X user exclaimed.
Another fan concurred, tweeting, “The writing on this show is so freaking backwards sometimes. Katie is perfectly fine with Electra even though she makes her son apologize for even breathing the wrong way. But, she hates the girl who loves her son as he is and, has his back.”
Finally, another fan summed things up, claiming that there is little the soap can do to get fans to dislike Dylan: “Making Katie unlikable with Dylan is not going to make me root for the bums at Forrester anymore than making Dylan an opportunist is going to make me root for the bum known as Electra.”
