Ever since The View began airing as part of ABC’s daytime programming block in August 1997, fans have come to adore the beloved morning talk show. First conceived by TV legend Barbara Walters, the show has seen a vast turnaround of hosts including Rosie O’Donnell, Meredith Vieira and tons more.

The hit ABC program, which is currently hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Meghan McCain, Sunny Hostin and Abby Huntsman, was rocked with some unexpected news when Joy revealed she plans to retire from the show in the summer of 2022.

“I have a three-year contract,” the journalist said in the book Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of ‘The View.’ “But that doesn’t mean I can’t leave if I want to, because they can’t really do anything to me at this point. I don’t see myself staying for more [time]. That’s it! I could be wrong. If I’m as fabulous in [2022] as I am now, I’ll think about [it]. But the chances of that happening…” She paused to reflect. “You know, time marches on. I’m not a kid.”

Joy won’t be the first one to leave the show. In January, Abby announced her departure after she spent two seasons on The View. “ABC has been my family for a long time and I am so thankful to have had a seat at the table on an iconic show like The View,” she wrote in a note to the staff, obtained by Closer Weekly. “After much deliberation over the holidays, I have decided to leave the show to dedicate myself full-time in support of my dad and his campaign for Governor of Utah.”

Then, in 2016, Candace Cameron Bure left the morning talk show after appearing on Season 19. Years later, the Full House alum opened up about her decision to bid farewell with the show and her fellow cohosts and having no regrets.

I don’t miss it,” Candace shared on Tamron Hall‘s self-titled talk show in a December 2019 interview. “I miss the people. I’ll be honest, I’m going to hop over after the show and go say ‘Hi’ because they all are friends and feel like buddies. But I don’t miss talking about politics every day. I want to stay in happy land. I want to be in a bubble where I just want to be kind and respectful and love on people.”
