Trisha Yearwood and Amy Grant Are ‘Each Other’s Go-To Friend in a Crisis’: ‘Not a Hint of Rivalry’

Amy Grant and Trisha Yearwood have been country music royalty for decades, but behind the scenes the two powerhouse performers are also lifelong friends who’ve stood by each other’s side through thick and thin.

“They really are best friends with not a hint of rivalry, despite the number of hits they’ve had,” a source exclusively tells Closer. “They’ve supported each other through the years and are each other’s go-to friend in a crisis.” 

The two have collaborated professionally before and last year hosted the CMA Country Christmas, which they hope to make a regular tradition from here on out.

“I was really excited to get the call to come back and co-host again with you, Amy, because it was so much fun last year,” Trisha, 60, told her friend, 64, in a joint interview in December 2024. “When you’re in this, the music industry, you kind of see each other at things and you get a chance to kind of say hello, but you don’t get a chance to really spend much time together.”

The “She’s In Love With the Boy” singer continued to gush about Amy throughout the interview. “Last year was the first time I got to really just see how funny you are and just how you are a sense of calm,” she recalled. “I talk 90 miles an hour and you’re just a sense of calm that is so nice. And you’re Amy Grant, so that’s pretty cool.”

“We’re not very far apart in age, but you started your career very young, and so you were very influential on me as a young girl,” Trisha added. “So just to be able to perform with you and be here with you is the best.”

As the source notes, their admiration and support is a two way street. Amy responded to the kind words, telling Trisha, “It’s funny, when we worked together, something about you already felt familiar to me. It was just interesting to get to work together.”

“I just thought it felt so natural to work with you and to be called back,” Amy added. 

The source notes that while “they did a Christmas special last year and have plans to collaborate this year, too,” their relationship goes a lot deeper than just industry partners. “Amy leaned on Trisha a lot when she was going through her health issues, she doesn’t know what she would do without Trisha.” 

The “Baby, Baby” singer relied heavily on Trisha after undergoing open heart surgery in 2020 to correct a “rare condition” that her doctor called “a ticking time bomb.” Worse yet was the damage sustained from a 2022 bike accident that left her with lasting neurological effects despite wearing a helmet at the time. 

Even while recovering from two horrible emergencies, the insider notes, “Amy’s been there for Trisha, too, especially with Garth [Brooks]’s legal woes.” As Trisha’s husband of nearly 20 years prepares to battle a sex assault accuser in court, Amy is standing by with a shoulder available should things get nasty.

With so much history, the insider reveals that even when they aren’t actively working on a project together, “there’s not a week that goes by that they don’t talk or text.”
