Following her stardom in the ’90s and early 2000s, Boyle has opted to live a more private life. In an interview with People in July 2024 — in promotion of her first film in four years, Mother, Couch — Boyle said that stepping away from the spotlight was partly due to the Covid-19 pandemic and partly because she wanted to spend more time with her husband, Donald Ray Thomas.
In the interview, the Wayne’s World actress reflected on the attention she received over the years, especially regarding her romance with Jack Nicholson and even after she married Thomas in 2006.

Boyle added that her acting in Mother, Couch, shouldn’t be framed as a comeback.
“You don’t want an article to read, ‘Boyle’s Second Chance’ or ‘Look Who’s Back,'” she explained. “I’m right here.”
