Whoopi Goldberg Playfully Collapses During Dramatic Conversation on ‘The View’ About J. Lo

The View’s Whoopi Goldberg is so over talking about one of the hottest topics of the past year – Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s divorce. The talk show host had quite a dramatic reaction when their split was brought up during an episode of the program on Thursday, March 27.

The cohosts were talking about Ben’s recent GQ interview where he broke his silence on his split from Jennifer, 55, saying that there was “no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue” about their divorce.

“I guess there’s a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something,” the Batman actor told the outlet. “But honestly, like I said, the truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or would be interesting.”

Joy Behar said that people simply “grow apart,” and Whoopi, 69, agreed. Their costar Sunny Hostin then said that she really thought that “this was supposed to be true love between Ben and J.Lo”

“You said it was true love. You’re the only one who believed that,” the Sister Act star told Sunny, 56.

“I believe there was real attraction,” Sara Haines said.

“I think maybe there was true love and just something happened,” Sunny said, doubling down on her previous comment about the relationship.

Whoopi was exhausted by the comment, lowering her body down on the table in defeat and ringing the bell that was sitting on the table beside her. Sara, 47, playfully comforted her costar as she collapsed down on the table.

Ben, 52, and Jennifer rekindled their romance in 2021, nearly two decades after calling off their engagement. The pair got married in July 2022. The “On the Floor” singer filed for divorce in August 2024 and it was finalized in January.

“The truth is, when you talk to somebody, ‘Hey, what happened?’ Well, there is no: ‘This is what happened.’ It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do,” the Argo actor further reflected on the split.

“And as you get older, this is true for me, I assume it’s true for most people, there is no ‘So-and-so did this’ or ‘This was the big event,’” he added. “It’s really, it sounds more like a couple’s therapy session, which — you would tune out of someone else’s couple’s therapy after a while. For one thing, you start going, ‘OK, clearly this person has got these issues. Clearly they have these issues.’ And the reason I don’t want to share that is just sort of embarrassing. It feels vulnerable.”

J. Lo also spoke out about their divorce, reflecting on some of the challenges she’s faced in her love life.

“It feels lonely, unfamiliar, scary. It feels sad. It feels desperate,” she told Nikki Glaser during a chat for Interview magazine in October 2024. “But when you sit in those feelings and go, ‘These things are not going to kill me,’ it’s like actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself. Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t be looking for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself. I used to say I’m a happy person, but was still looking for something for somebody else to fill, and it’s just like, ‘No, I’m actually good.’”
