Wynonna Judd had a rocky relationship with her late mom, Naomi Judd — and according to her, she had to make great efforts to differentiate herself from the country music icon.
During a live interview in Nashville with Bunnie Xo on Monday, February 23, the Stripped Down author, 46, asked Judd, 61, what the most ridiculous thing she was asked to change for branding.
“No one has ever asked me to change anything [about myself],” Judd, 61, said during a live interview in Nashville with Bunnie Xo on Monday, February 23. “And I’m not going to say this because I’m full of myself — I’m going to say it because I’m a unique individual who strived to be different than my mother.”

“I had to think differently because I was, and I think the only thing someone has ever asked me to do is to change my appearance when it came to wearing dresses on stage,” she explained. “They wanted me to be prissy like her and I thought no, I’m a tomboy.”
Judd recalled putting her foot down and wearing “suits” and dressing how she wanted.
That wasn’t the only time Wynonna mentioned Naomi: When asked if country music had a Housewives reunion, who would be the one flipping the tables, she answered, “My mother.”
Wynonna and Naomi were one of the biggest country music duos of the 1980s, but their relationship off stage was famously tumultuous.

After her mother’s April 2022 suicide, Wynonna and sister Ashley Judd opened up about their complicated relationship in the A&E docuseries The Judd Family: Truth Be Told.
“I’ve loved her more than I’ve loved myself,” Wynonna said. “But mother was both in love with me and terrified of me because I represented what she didn’t know and couldn’t control.”
