Bindi Irwin’s Family Is ‘Ecstatic’ About Her Pregnancy: Her Mom Is ‘Over the Moon’

The best news ever! Bindi Irwin‘s family is “ecstatic” she’s expecting her first child with husband Chandler Powell, a source exclusively tells Closer Weekly. The 22-year-old’s mom, Terri Irwin “is over the moon. She’s hoping for a boy and is already planning on being a doting grandma.”

However, Terri, 56, and her son, Robert Irwin, aren’t the only ones who are happy to see Bindi be a mom. The wildlife warrior is “excited about starting a family” too. During her downtime with Chandler, 23, the duo would “read up on what to expect during the pregnancy.” That’s why they already “have a ton of books on child-rearing,” the insider explains.

But no matter how joyous they may be, Bindi wishes she had her late dad, Steve Irwin, around to give her some advice. “It’s very bittersweet because Steve would have been the best grandpa ever,” the source notes. “There’s always been talk that they would name the baby Steve if it was a boy, [but] Bindi and Chandler aren’t committed to that just yet. They want to see him or her first before they choose a name.”

No doubt the pair are “going to be amazing parents.” Even though they “didn’t expect” to have a kid this soon, they’re “happy” that they have a little one on the way, the insider says. After all, Bindi and Chandler knew they were made for each other since the first moment they met at the Australia Zoo in November 2013. During a previous interview with People, Chandler said he was smitten with the conversationalist right away.

“I’m like, ‘Wow she is amazing,'” the wakeboarder remembered. “[We] hit it off right away.” The two lovebirds later got married at the same place they fell in love — the Australia Zoo — in March 2020. Although they couldn’t have their loved ones there because of the coronavirus pandemic, they shared all of the best photos from their wedding on Instagram.

“We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend,” Bindi gushed at the time. “There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now.” Now that they’re about to be parents, Bindi has been looking after herself more than ever before.

She’s been “feeling great,” the source says. “It’s only the first trimester and so far no crazy cravings.”
