To mark the UK’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, March 11, Buckingham Palace shared a previously unseen photo of the royal family from 1965. The picture, posted on both Twitter and Instagram, showed Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, and their four children in the gardens of the monarchy’s Frogmore House. The country home is owned by the Crown Estate and situated in Windsor Castle’s Home Park, half a mile south of the main castle.

“Wishing a very happy Mothering Sunday to all of our followers. #MothersDay,” the rare snapshot’s caption read. Previously taken on the Queen’s 39th birthday, the intimate image showed the family looking at something that had caught their attention on the grass. A young Prince Edward was leaning out his stroller, Prince Andrew held onto the stroller’s handle, and Prince Charles and Princess Anne stood nearby with their parents. The palace also took to social media to share a snap of the Queen and the Earl of Wessex to mark his 54th birthday, which Edward celebrated one day earlier.

As previously mentioned, the royal family photo was taken in the Frogmore House gardens. The private, 35-acre gardens are often used by the royals as a secret escape and were even chosen as the location of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s engagement photo shoot. Cool, right?!
