If you’re an Ally McBeal fan waiting on the edge of your seat hoping to see the show return to the small screen with a reboot, we’re here to sadly advise you not to hold your breath. Because, unfortunately, Calista Flockhart‘s hopes and plans to bring the beloved Fox legal comedy-drama back to TV keep hitting snags.

While the 54-year-old is said to be pushing hard to revamp Ally McBeal, the project has apparently been tough for higher-ups at networks to get on board with. “Calista’s been quietly hustling to pull together a reboot in the spirit of other ‘90s hits like Roseanne and Murphy Brown, but it’s been one frustration after another,” an insider exclusively revealed to Closer Weekly. “Fox doesn’t want the show and there aren’t a lot of interested takers at the moment. Calista wants to be the lead in a series again and have some creative outlet now that her son Liam is going off to college.”

Harrison Ford, who has been married to the Golden Globe winner since 2010, is completely in his wife’s corner, as the insider said he is “totally supportive of her going back to work full time.” The source added, “Trouble is, [McBeal creator] David E. Kelly can’t write a word until he’s completely done with his contract on Big Little Lies. It’s just bad timing.”

So it sounds like it may be a while before we receive another season of Ally McBeal, which previously ran from 1997 to 2002 and won various awards. For now, the Brothers & Sisters alum will continue to spend her days with her son, 18, and her husband, 76. In a previous interview, Calista gushed about what makes her long marriage to Harrison work. “Harrison and I laugh a lot, and humor is everything to me,” she said, adding that their 22-year age gap is a “non-issue.” She explained, “The truth is, I sometimes feel very much older than Harrison.”

As for all of you Ally McBeal fans, don’t be too down about a reboot still being up in the air — at least there’s a chance The West Wing could return to TV!
