The soap world was stunned on Monday when news broke of actor Robert Kelker-Kelly‘s death. The star, who came to daytime fame in the 1980s as Sam Fowler on Another World and last appeared on soaps as General Hospital‘s Stavros Cassadine in 2014, was 62.

While no official cause of death has been announced, a spokesperson for the first responders who were on the scene spoke to Page Six.

“First responders and paramedics responded to a call … for an adult male patient for a cardiac arrest,” Kyle Gaines, public information officer for the St. Charles County Ambulance District in Missouri, said. “They were dispatched, where paramedics and first responders provided advanced life-saving protocol techniques. Unfortunately, the patient was pronounced deceased on scene.”

According to TMZ, paramedics were called to Kelker-Kelly’s Missouri home on Saturday night, where CPR was already being done. When they got there, they performed other life-saving measures, but were ultimately unsuccessful. The St. Peters police department told TMZ that nothing suspicious was reported at the scene.

Kelker-Kelly first burst onto the soap scene in 1987 as Sam Fowler, who eventually married heiress Amanda Cory. After leaving Another World, Kelker-Kelly took on the role of one of the most famous soap heroes of all time, Days of our Lives‘ Bo Brady, replacing Peter Reckell from 1992 to 1995. He then returned to his old stomping ground in the late 90s to play Another World‘s Bobby Reno. Kelker-Kelly completed his soap career in 2014 as GH’s Stavros, a role he first played more than a decade prior, per IMDb.

In a 2013 interview with We Love Soaps, Kelker-Kelly described what he thought made a good daytime drama: “I’m a firm believer that if you have good compelling stories and good actors, all the histrionics on the side don’t make a dang bit of difference.”
