In a recent interview with BBC Radio 2, the former teen idol, 68, recalled how The King would often call up his mother to chat. “Elvis would love to talk to my mom all the time,” the former Donny & Marie host explained. “She reminded him of his mom.”
“And so one day he called the house, and the phone rings, and my brother Alan picked up and said, ‘Hello?’ and he hears, ‘Is your mother there?'” Osmond continued, doing his best impression of the “Hound Dog” singer.
“He said, ‘Yeah, who’s calling?’ ‘Oh, this is Elvis,'” the Dancing with the Stars season 9 winner continued. “He didn’t put two and two together. He said, ‘Mom, some guy named Elvis is on the phone for you!'”
Osmond went on to call the late legend “a really nice guy,” who was a “sweet and gentle giant” backstage. “And onstage,” he added, “watch out!”
During a 2019 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the “Meet Me in Montana” singer also recalled Presley’s calls for their mother.
“Yeah! I know everyone has their story but we have legitimate [stories]. He called my mom, [Olive], all the time. Loved her,” she revealed.
Marie continued, “She reminded him very much of his mom. And so, you know, he would call and I’d kind of try to hear and [my mom] would try to shut the door. And we’d go to Vegas and there was always a room full of flowers, never for us, always for her. Honestly, I think the reason our family is more open with fans through meet-and-greets… is because of him, really. He got very lonely towards the end, he isolated himself a lot.”
