One of the most popular romantic comedies of the 1990s was Four Weddings and a Funeral, particularly the on-screen chemistry between actors Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell, which captured the hearts and imaginations of the audience. Next year will be the 25th Anniversary of the film and it seems that to commemorate it, we’re getting a sequel — though not necessarily in the format that you might think.

Richard Curtis, writer of the original, took to Comic Relief’s twitter account to post a video providing the details for next year’s annual Red Nose Day. It starts with a title card reading, “A special announcement from Richard Curtis,” which then cuts to him talking to us.

“I’m quite excited because we are doing a twelve-minute film of Four Weddings and a Funeral twenty-five years later,” he explains, just prior to a title card asking who’s on the guest list. “It’s going to have in it all the original cast — Andie MacDowell, John Hannah, Kristin Scott Thomas, Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant. And then there’s going to be a couple of younger people because twenty-five years have passed and it’s a wedding.”

You’re probably wondering who’s getting married, but Richard’s not talking: “I can’t tell you whose wedding it is, because that’s the twist. It’s been written by me and, you know, with some jokes by my girlfriend as usual, and it’s being directed by Mike Newell, who directed the original.”

If you’re wondering how you can be a part of the festivities, he’s got an answer for that as well: “There’s going to be a prize draw. If you enter, you give some money to Comic Relief and the prize for one person is to come down on the day we film, have breakfast with all the cast… I think it is a once in a lifetime thing.”

We couldn’t agree more. To enter, just go to givergy.com.

And for anyone needing a quick refresher course on the original, here’s the description from Google: “Lovable Englishman Charles (Hugh Grant) and his group of friends seem to be unlucky in love. When Charles meets a beautiful American named Carrie (Andie MacDowell) at a wedding, he thinks his luck may have changed. But, after one magical night, Carrie returns to the States, ending what might have been. As Charles and Carrie’s paths continue to cross — over a handful of nuptials and one funeral — he comes to believe they are meant to be together, even if their timing always seems to be off.”

Look for One Red Nose Day and a Wedding to premiere on March 15, 2019.
