Joan Cusack returned to the red carpet once again to promote Toy Story 5, and the Say Anything star opened up about her decision to step away from the spotlight.
“I worked for a long time, and I feel so honored to be able to work in this industry for a long time,” Cusack, 63, said during an interview with Variety on Tuesday, June 9, at the Pixar film’s premiere in Los Angeles.
“But it’s also great to live your life and raise your kids and be in Chicago and be a normal person,” the Shameless alum continued. “It’s kind of priceless, so there’s that.”
However, she added that it was “kind of cool” to be a part of the red carpet experience for Toy Story 5 “because there’s not that many movies that do huge red carpets.”

Cusack shares sons Dylan, 28, and Miles, 25, with husband Richard Burke, who she’s been married to since 1996.
As Closer previously reported, fans almost didn’t recognize the Runaway Bride actress at the Disney movie’s London premiere last month, which marked her first red carpet appearance since 2015 for Showtime’s Emmy Eve. At the event, Cusack looked noticeably different with shorter hair and bangs, along with dark, oversized glasses.
“Because you can’t use your face or your body, you just have to use your voice. It’s kind of really hard,” she added during the London premiere on May 28. “Because you don’t hear your voice that way, that potently…This time, I felt like I had the craft for it and I could do it better.”
