Kate Middleton Makes First Post-Pregnancy News Appearance in Mental Health Awareness Video

In a new video for the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, Kate Middleton chats openly about the issue of mental health and how it can affect children.

During the short clip, the Duchess of Cambridge — making her first post-pregnancy news appearance — introduces an animation created by the charity to help reduce the stigma around mental health and young people. “Mental health is how we feel and think. Things that can’t really be seen, but that affect us every day and talking about them can feel difficult,” Kate began. Watch the video below!

This is the first glimpse of Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s mom we’ve had since the announcement of her third pregnancy at the beginning of September. However, as People magazine pointed out, this clip was not shot while she was pregnant but back in January when Kate visited the charity as part of her patron duties. The Duchess — who suffers from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness — will not be carrying out public engagements while she is pregnant.

This isn’t the first time Kate, 35, has spoken passionately about mental health. Earlier this year, she teamed up with her husband, Prince William, also 35, and brother-in-law, Prince Harry, 33, to launch mental health charity, Heads Together, an organization with the aim to “help end the stigma that stops peoples talking and change the conversation about mental health for good.”

With 2017 marking twenty years since the tragic passing of Princess Diana, both William and Harry have been more vocal than ever when it comes to opening up about grief and mental health. For example, in April, Harry spoke honestly on Bryony Gordon’s Mad World podcast about the impact of losing his mother at such a young age and how he sought counseling to deal with it.

“I know there is huge merit in talking about your issues and the only thing about keeping it quiet is that it’s only ever going to make it worse. Not just for you but everybody else around you as well because you become a problem. I, through a lot of my twenties, was a problem and I didn’t know how to deal with it,” he said at the time.
