It's the cake that keeps on giving! According to the royal family's official website, Prince William and Kate Middleton will serve their seven-year-old wedding cake to the guests attending Prince Louis' royal christening at the Chapel Royal at St. James's Palace in London on Monday, July 9.

Following little Louis' church blessing, Kate, William, and their three children hosted guests for a private tea at Clarence House and, at the special event, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge followed royal tradition by sharing a previously untouched tier of their eight-tier wedding cake from their April 2011 nuptials.

"Following the service, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will give a private tea at Clarence House. Guests will be served slices of christening cake, which is a tier taken from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding cake," a message on the British monarchy's website explained.

It is a known tradition that royal couples serve pieces of their wedding fruitcakes at the christening of their firstborn child. But, interestingly, William and Kate have chosen to keep the tradition for all three of their children and previously treated guests to a slice of the confection at George and Charlotte's baptisms in October 2013 and July 2015, respectively.

The seven-year-old fruitcake reportedly remains edible today because of the alcohol it contains, which helps preserve the cake. Kate and William's lavish wedding cake reportedly cost $80,000, was created by baker Fiona Cairns, was three feet tall, and consisted of 17 individual fruitcakes. The confection's design featured 17 different types of foliage and was decorated with 900 sugar-paste flowers including roses and apple bottoms.
