Katie Couric’s Family Album! See Rare Photos of Daughters Ellie and Carrie Over the Years

Katie Couric‘s daughters are all grown up, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t still create amazing memories with her girls, Elinor Monahan and Caroline Monahan. In fact, the former Today star’s rare family photos prove she shares an unbreakable bond with her beautiful children.

Katie is the mom of Elinor and Caroline, who also respectively go by Ellie and Carrie, with her late husband, Jay Monahan. The Yahoo News alum and the former lawyer welcomed their eldest daughter, Ellie, on July 23, 1991. Less than two years later, their youngest, Carrie, arrived on January 5, 1996.

Sadly, Katie’s beloved husband — whom she tied the knot with in 1989 – tragically died from colon cancer less than three weeks after Carrie’s 2nd birthday in January 1998. Following Jay’s death, Katie made sure to focus on her daughters, as well as her work as cohost of Today.

“I, first of all, was really, really happy that I had that job,” she explained to WNYC’s “Death, Sex & Money” podcast in 2017. “I’ve thought that if I had stopped when I was pregnant with Ellie and decided I was going to be a stay at home mom — which I have a lot of respect for stay at home moms — but I don’t think it’s necessarily a great insurance policy for unforeseen events.”

It’s been over two decades since Jay’s death, but the Best Advice I Ever Got author — who married her second husband, John Molner, in 2014 — still remembers her first love. While paying tribute to Jay’s birthday in January 2020, Katie posted a handful of heartwarming throwback photos of her former spouse and his girls.

“Jay, we love you and miss you every day. On this day, we celebrate what would have been your 64th birthday,” she gushed via Instagram. “You live on in your girls and in our hearts.”

Just weeks later while honoring the 22nd anniversary of Jay’s death, the doting mom uploaded more sweet throwbacks of her family. “Dear Jay. You left us 22 years ago today,” she captioned the photo collage at the time. “You’ve never left our hearts.”

Although Jay is no longer around, Katie has made sure to document her family’s most exciting milestones. The Fed Up actress shared gorgeous snapshots of Ellie the day she got engaged to her fiancé, Mark. “OMG — Ellie and Mark are engaged!” Katie marveled alongside the post in February 2019. “And she’s wearing the ring her Dad gave to me.”
