Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick ‘Feel Very Lucky to Have Such a Great Relationship’

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have one of the strongest marriages in Hollywood, and they’re regularly sought out for advice, which they’re more than happy to share with friends and family!

“Kevin and Kyra always say communication is the key to the longevity of their marriage,” an insider exclusively tells Closer. “They always talk things out as soon as they happen, they’re both very emotionally intelligent and they’ve also taken a lot of self-development courses together. They’ve done couple’s counseling and have learned a lot of tools.”

Kevin, 66, and Kyra, 59, have been married since 1988 and share two children, daughter Sosie Bacon, 33, and son Travis Bacon, 35.

“They both feel very lucky to have such a great relationship but they’re also clear it’s taken work,” the insider continues about Kevin and Kyra’s strong marriage. “Whenever younger couples come to them asking for advice they tell them they need to set up a system that will force them to get any grudges out into the open immediately.”

“They also recommend making scheduled date nights, because with kids and work life can get very hectic and usually couple’s let their quality time slip when things get busy,” the source says. “And that’s often the beginning of the end. Kyra and Kevin still have a very romance heavy relationship, they’re always kissing and cuddling and holding hands.”

While their marriage is rock-solid, Kevin admitted that the first time they met was rather awkward. The Footloose actor crossed paths with Kyra years prior to working with her in 1988’s Lemon Sky.

“I will tell you that I was doing a lot of Off-Broadway, many years before that. I was 19 so she was 12, I think,” Kevin said during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Monday, April 7. “Her mom had seen me in some plays Off-Broadway, and she knew that little 12-year-old Kyra wanted to be an actor.”

“I was buying a sandwich in the deli around the corner. This 12-year-old girl came up and said, ‘Hi, I liked you in the play.’ And, according to her, I said, ‘Thanks, sweetie.’ You know, kind of misogynistic,” Kevin remembered. “She tells this story that when we first met doing Lemon Sky, she said, ‘You know we met in the village after that play that time. Do you remember that?’ And I went, ‘Yeah I do remember that.’ And she went, ‘Really?’ And I went, ‘No.'”

“So she did not like me. It was not love at first sight,” he said.

In March 2023, the happy couple shared some of their marriage secrets with People.

“We’ve always been each other’s biggest support and fans,” Kyra told the outlet.

After more than 30 years of marriage, the Miss Rose White actress said that she and Kevin like to show off their funny sides at home.

“A sense of humor is crucial,” the mom of two said. “He is very freaking funny.”

The duo have worked together on a number of Hollywood projects over the years, but their next project is perhaps their most exciting one yet, as Kevin and Kyra will costar with their kids in Family Movie.

“This is a dream,” Kevin told Us Weekly on March 31 of the upcoming horror-comedy film. “We just love hanging out with our kids. But the crazy thing is, not all the time, but every once in a while, they like to hang out with us, and so that’s the s–t right there because you raise them and a lot of times, it doesn’t translate into an ongoing, lasting, close relationship.”
