Meryl Streep is looking back at her time filming Death Becomes Her — and revealing a surprising behind-the-scenes tension with costar Goldie Hawn.
In a candid interview with Vanity Fair released on Thursday, April 30, Streep, 76, admitted she once “had a beef” with Hawn while working on the 1992 cult classic.
The reason? Timing.
“Goldie, she was always late to set,” Streep said, noting that her own punctual nature made the difference stand out. The Devil Wears Prada star also recalled that, adding insult to injury, Hawn was seemingly uncaring about the inconvenience, even arriving to the set in her red convertible.
Still, she quickly clarified there was no bad blood. “I loved her. I love her. She’s one of my buddies,” she added.

Despite the minor frustration, Streep said the real challenge came from the film’s groundbreaking visual effects. Wearing full-body green suits and filming complex scenes proved difficult. “Tedious is kind of a little word for what it is,” she admitted. “It’s excruciating.”
Even so, the Oscar winner said working alongside Hawn made it worthwhile. “We just laughed,” she recalled. “She’s the best laugher in America.”
