Richard Gere, 69, Welcomes First Child With Much-Younger Wife Alejandra Silva

Congratulations are in order for Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva — they’re new parents to a baby boy! The 69-year-old actor and his much-younger publicist wife, 35, welcomed their first child together a few days ago in New York City, Richard’s rep confirmed to E! News on Monday, February 11. While Baby Gere — whose name has yet to be revealed — is the first child the Pretty Woman star and Alejandra have together, both are already parents to older sons from their previous marriages.

Richard welcomed son Homer James Jigme Gere, 19, with ex-wife Carey Lowell back in 2000 and Alejandra had son Albert Friedland, 6, with her ex-husband Govind Friedland. In addition to Carey — the two were married from 2002 until 2016 — Richard was also previously hitched to Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995.

News that Richard and Alejandra were expecting a baby together first broke with rumors last summer and the Spanish-born mom later confirmed the happy announcement in September 2018 via Instagram.

After the duo tied the knot in a civil ceremony in early April 2018, the actor gushed he was the “happiest man in the universe” to be married to Alejandra. “I’m the happiest man in the universe. How could I not be? I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who’s fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook, and who makes the best salads in the world!” he gushed to Hello! magazine at the time.

“Alejandra meditates, she’s a vegetarian, a great mother, has the touch of an angel, and she’s also Spanish — the land of kings and queens, of Cervantes and Bunuel. You can’t get any better than that,” Richard added. The star and Alejandra first sparked romance rumors back in summer 2015 when they were photographed packing on the PDA on a yacht in Italy.
