‘Shrinking’ Is Returning for Season 3: Casting Updates and Everything to Know About the Show

Shrinking, starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, has boasted the perfect combination of laughs, an incredible cast and some important life lessons over its first two seasons. The Apple TV+ show has officially been renewed for season 3! Closer shares everything to know about the upcoming season so far.

‘Shrinking’ Has Been Renewed for Season 3

In October 2024, Apple TV+ announced in a press release that Shrinking would be getting a season 3.

“I’m so lucky to work on Shrinking with actors, writers and a crew so talented that they all elevate the material,” cocreator and executive producer Bill Lawrence said in a statement. “I’m even luckier that they are people I’d want to spend time with anyway. Huge thanks to Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. for the amazing partnership and support. So grateful we get to keep making this show. Onward!”

“It has been wonderful to watch audiences around the world fall in love with the memorable characters and rich world that Bill, Brett and Jason have created in Shrinking,” Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, said. “We are incredibly excited for viewers to see where life takes Jimmy, Paul, Liz, Gabby, Alice, Sean, Brian and Derek next as they continue on their moving, heartwarming and very funny journey in season three.”

‘Shrinking’ Season 3 Casting Updates

In addition to Jason and Harrison, Shrinking also stars Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Ted McGinley and Brett Goldstein.

In March 2025, it was announced that Jeff Daniels was joining the cast for season 3 as Jason’s character Jimmy’s father.

Bill was asked whether or not Brett would be returning to the show after Louis ended up making amends with Jimmy and his daughter, Alice, in season 2.

“Yeah, I gotta leverage that dude. I think the ending was satisfying. I hope it was for people. But I think I’ve been public about saying the first year is about grief, the second year was about forgiveness and third year’s about moving forward,” he told Deadline in December 2024. “I don’t think you can do this show about moving forward without knowing how that guy’s life moves forward, at least for an episode or two. So now I just got to leverage Brett into doing what I want him to do. He’s a very busy man. It’s very frustrating.”

What Will Season 3 of ‘Shrinking’ Be About?

In an October 2024 interview with TV Insider, Bill hinted that season 3 is about “moving forward.”

Jason was also asked about where Jimmy’s relationship with Louis is headed in season 3 after their emotional scene in the season 2 finale, where Jimmy essentially saved Louis from jumping in front of an oncoming train at the train station.

“I don’t know where it leaves them in terms of season 3,” Jason told The Hollywood Reporter in December 2024. “I’m not that hippie-dippie as an actor, but it was just a quiet night, and it was a quiet scene, and they intentionally set the cameras up, even for our close-ups, they were set up on the other side of the tracks [with a long lens]. It just felt like Brett and I sitting on a bench, talking to each other. It felt tender and intimate and just how it was supposed to be.”
