Tamron Hall Reveals How Leaving ‘Today’ Changed Everything: ‘You’ve Got to Persevere’

Everything happens for a reason.

Tamron Hall had quite the tough moment in February 2017 when she said goodbye to Today and her NBC family after it was revealed that Megyn Kelly would be taking over her timeslot — she has also left the network — but it turns out that was the first step that led to two wonderful things: her husband, Steven Greener, and her baby boy, Moses.

“My story is not one I could’ve ever written or expected,” the 48-year-old told People. “I never thought I’d have to lose everything to gain even more, but I lost my spot and I gained a husband who roots for me, a beautiful baby boy who looks at me like I’m his entire world and not just his milk source, and I have a phenomenal daytime talk show team who every time we’re on the phone, they just want the best for me and I want the best for them.”

“It’s just great,” she added. “But two-and-a-half years ago when I walked out of that building in black patent leather boots and a black-and-white jacket, I was in a fog. I thought, ‘Wow, is this how it goes down?’ Not knowing that so many of us lose things we think are important, and you have no idea that something better is right there. You’ve just got to persevere.”

The TV personality gave birth to her first child on April 25. However, she was originally hesitant to share news of her pregnancy out of fear. “I was high-risk, not just because of my age, but there were other medical factors too,” she said in an recent interview. “My doctor said, ‘This is your body, your health. You share of your journey what you want to share.’ I was terrified I would lose this baby and I would have to go back and tell everyone that now it was bad news, and after this pregnancy had gone so far.”

Tamron even revealed that she went through fertility treatment in her 30s, and was losing hope of ever having a child before she got pregnant. “Just like with my job search during that time, there were so many frustrations: I’m putting in the work, I’m taking care of my mind and my body and I’m being rejected,” she added. “I’m thinking, ‘Wait a minute. What have I done wrong here?’ Somehow, like Rocky, I kept getting up.”
