3 Out-of-This World ‘General Hospital’ Stories We’ll Never Forget
‘General Hospital’ has featured bizarre plots including weather machines, an alien named Casey, and memory mapping madness that fans still talk about today.
General Hospital has had its fair share of odd and bizarre stories over the years, with more surely to come, but there are always those weird plots that stand out in fans’ minds. From controlling the weather and the world to aliens and identical twin tales, Port Charles has seen it all. These three weird and wacky stories are standouts that fans are still talking about today.
Laura Saves the World…Twice
Mayor Laura Collins (Genie Francis) has been a Port Charles heroine since her teens, having saved the world from certain destruction more than once. In 1981, Laura and her late ex-husband Luke (Anthony Geary) saved the planet from the evil Cassadines, who were trying to freeze the world with a weather machine. The story took the young lovers to an island where they had to crack a computer code to turn the weather machine off.
More than 40 years later, Laura was at it again with Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy), who again tried to control the weather. In 2023, Laura once again had to crack a computer code to stop a weather machine, as well as stop a biotoxin set to wipe out half of the Earth’s population. That’s quite an accomplishment for the soap heroine who put GH on the map.
Anna and Robin Meet Casey the Alien
In between stints as a super source and police commissioner, Anna (Finola Hughes) and her daughter, Robin (Kimberly McCullough), met a strange man named Casey (Brad Lockerman), who was looking for a special crystal. Young Robin was the first person to find Casey in Anna’s garage. She befriended him and wanted to help him, but things went awry when Casey appeared to be dying. All he wanted was to return to his home planet of Lumina with this very rare and powerful crystal, but his health deteriorated. Robin convinced Anna to get Casey the help he needed.
Anna and Robin realized that the crystal was the only thing that could save Casey, so they finally retrieved it from Cesar Faison (Anders Hove). Miraculously, Casey made it back to his home planet, never to be seen again. He has also never been spoken of again, as it seems like a story GH would like to memory hole, even if fans can’t.
Memory Mapping Madness
When Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) returned to Port Charles after several years in a Russian clinic, the soap had to explain how there was another man walking around, claiming to be Jason Morgan and living with all of his memories. So, the memory mapping story was born. It turned out that the other Jason was really Drew Cain (then played by Billy Miller), Jason’s twin who had plastic surgery and looked like a different man. Jason’s memories had ended up on a flash drive and had been implanted in Drew’s brain.
We eventually learned that Anna had also been part of that experiment and had memories that belonged to her twin sister, Alex. However, this plot truly went off the rails when Drew’s old memories (also on a flash drive) were implanted into Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth), making Franco believe he was Drew for about six months. Thankfully, Franco managed to get his own memories back and the memory mapping fiasco came to a close.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and streams each weeknight on Hulu.
