Tom Selleck Still ‘Trying to Land a Network TV Gig’ Following 2024 Cancellation of ‘Blue Bloods’

Retirement doesn’t seem to be in Tom Selleck‘s vocabulary.

At 81 years old, the veteran actor has been busy “trying to land a network TV gig,” reveals a source.

“He’s dying to be the center of a new show,” the source tells Closer. “Tom still has the energy and the gravitas to lead a series.”

Prior to its 2024 cancellation, Selleck starred on Blue Bloods as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan for 14 years.

He also had a lengthy, eight-year stint as former Navy SEAL Thomas Magnum on cult-classic Magnum, P.I., in the 1980s.

Both shows originally aired on CBS — and the source says Selleck has been reaching out to his old connections at the network to find a fresh project.

“He’s made it clear to the bosses at CBS to send any and all offers his way,” says the source. “Tom has acted opposite enough older performers to know there’s always plenty of work in Hollywood for people his age — it’s just about finding material that is the perfect fit for him.”

As Closer previously reported, Blue Bloods costar Donnie Wahlberg attempted to get Selleck written into the series’ 2025 spinoff, Boston Blue, but no opportunities appear to have materialized as of yet. Season 2 of the offshoot premieres on Friday, October 9.

“Tom’s hoping for a miracle,” the source adds. “At heart, he’s still that young kid who grew up in Los Angeles, footsteps from the studios, dreaming of working in TV and movies. His will to grab millions of eyeballs just never went away.”
