Hallmark’sWhen Calls the Heart returns in January 2027 with Season 14, which has just started filming in Canada. As the cameras start rolling, quite a few cast members have shared fun updates via their social media pages. However, there have also been a couple of surprising cast exits that have fans talking.
Just about a week ago, Erin Krakow (Elizabeth Thornton) teased When Calls the Heart fans with an airplane selfie that included her husband, Ben Rosenbaum (Mike Hickam), their dog, Willoughby, and a glimpse of their baby girl.
Since then, Krakow has shared an additional Instagram post giving “Hearties” a glimpse into the early stages of Season 14 filming.

On August 4, Krakow posted a video that included Kevin McGarry (Nathan Grant), Jaeda Lily Miller (Allie Grant), and Hyland Goodrich (Little Jack Thornton). The caption read, “Back in the valley for SEASON 14 of @wcth_tv!”
One fan gushed, “The joy you just brought us all with only a 10 second clip.”
Pascalle Hutton (Rosemary Coulter) also teased the beginning of filming with an Instagram post of her own. She wore a sweatshirt with “WCTH” on it and shared a selfie of herself before getting hair and makeup done. In the caption, she teased, “Guess what’s happening today????????”
Unfortunately, some Season 13 cast members have recently learned they will not be back for Season 14. Melissa Gilbert (Georgie McCall) revealed she was cut due to “budget issues,” and recently, another cast member indicated they had also been cut.
Samantha Ferris joined When Calls the Heart in Season 11, playing Maisie Hickam. She returned for a handful of episodes again in Season 13.
However, in a July 18 Instagram post, Ferris revealed “Sad news (for me, anyway).”
Ferris continued, “I won’t be back as the fabulous Maisie Hickam on When Calls the Heart this coming season.”
She added, “I don’t really have a reason as sometimes they just don’t tell you, but I LOVED my time on the show and [am] grateful for the two seasons I had.”
Maisie is one of Mike’s sisters, and she was elected mayor of Benson Hills. In the Season 13 finale of When Calls the Heart, Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally) announced he was stepping down as Governor, and he threw his support to Maisie pursuing the office. She was hesitant to run for the position, but Mike encouraged her to do it.
That campaign, and perhaps a win, may be how Maisie exits Hope Valley and When Calls the Heart, but fans are disappointed.
One fan wrote, “Oh that’s a shame — you were flawless in s13 — I loved the dynamic you brought.”
Another added, “That’s a huge loss and Maisie will be missed, but it will be exciting to see what other projects you have coming up. Hearties will always have your back!”
As When Calls the Heart fans know, Lori Loughlin is returning as Abigail Stanton after several seasons away, and she made a surprise appearance in the Season 13 finale.
As filming gets underway, Hearties will undoubtedly be watching closely for more clues about what Season 14 has in store. With new episodes on the way and familiar faces both returning and departing, the next chapter in Hope Valley is already shaping up to be an emotional one.
