Yoko Ono Praises John Lennon’s First Wife Cynthia Following Her Death

Following the death of John Lennon's first wife, Cynthia, the woman who split up their marriage is publicly paying her condolences.

In a statement on her website, Yoko Ono said, "I'm very saddened by Cynthia's death. She was a great person and a wonderful mother to Julian," who was the couple's only child together.

"She had such a strong zest for life and I felt proud how we two women stood firm in the Beatles family. Please join me in sending love and support to Julian at this very sad time," Yoko added.

After marrying the Beatle in 1962, Cynthia was largely kept out of the spotlight, so much so that many of the rocker's female fans didn't even know of her existence.

Though he had many affairs throughout their marriage, it was Yoko who successfully broke up the couple. After they divorced in 1968, John married the Japanese artist the following year.

Although Cynthia and Yoko appeared to have little in common, apart from the man they both loved, they eventually mended fences, posing together with their sons in 2010.

Yoko posted the shot of the foursome alongside her statement, writing, "When we were very happy together."
