Kate Mansi, who took over the role of General Hospital’s Kristina Corinthos-Davis exactly three years ago, has opted to leave the ABC soap and has already taped her last Port Charles scenes, according to Soap Opera Network.
Mansi, who won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2017 for playing Days of our Lives‘ Abigail Deveraux, was cast as Kristina in 2023, replacing fellow Emmy winner Lexi Ainsworth, who had brought Kristina to life off and on since 2009. Mansi had been a Days of our Lives mainstay from 2011 to 2020.
On-screen, Mansi’s Kristina was involved with a dramatic surrogacy story in which Kristina was both the egg donor and the gestational surrogate for her sister, Molly, who suffered from endometriosis and could not become pregnant. Mansi has said this story was important to her because she also lives with endometriosis, a condition in which tissue grows outside the uterus, often causing pain and fertility issues.
As this is a soap, Kristina’s pregnancy did not end happily, as she fell from a hotel window into the pool below, leading to a stillbirth. Kristina had a hard time recovering mentally from the experience, but is now getting her life back together.
During her time at GH, Mansi has not only acted but has also directed. In March of this year, she directed an episode close to her heart in which Molly suffered an endometrial flare-up and had to be rushed to the hospital.
“As someone who’s been in this industry for a while, I’ve never even read a script in my life to this day, apart from here, that even mentioned endometriosis,” Mansi said in an interview with People. “So I was so proud of ABC and [executive producer] Frank Valentini and the writers for telling this story. I was so honored and it should be something that is represented more.”
Mansi has reportedly taped her last scenes at General Hospital, but as of now, there is no word about her final airdate.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and streams each weeknight on Hulu.
