Although he’s kept a low profile for the past few years, Mike Myers certainly seems to be popping up everywhere recently. For starters, he makes an appearance in Bohemian Rhapsody as EMI executive Ray Foster, then he started teasing the possibility of Austin Powers 4, and now, taking on the guise of Austin’s arch-enemy Dr. Evil, he’s appeared on The Tonight Show to tell host Jimmy Fallon that he’s running for Congress (cue dramatic music)!

As to why he’s running, Dr. Evil, who describes himself as an “Evilitarian” (rather than a Republican or Democrat) states, “It’s 2018, evil’s in right now. It’s hip. It’s like playing Fortnite while slamming a Tide pod and doing the Shiggy challenge.” His platform is to “make America evil again.”

In terms of a new Austin Powers adventure, part of the challenge will undoubtedly come in the form that those films are so incredibly politically incorrect and pretty much go out of their way to offend as many people as possible. Mike’s solution? “I would love to do a movie from Dr. Evil’s perspective,” he related to Entertainment Tonight. “So it would be Dr. Evil 1, Austin Powers 4, is how I would roll. Start the campaign, please. Thank you.”

The films in the series so far are Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999), and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002).

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Mike detailed the origins of the character. “After my dad died in 1991, I was taking stock of his influence on me as a person and his influence on me with comedy in general. So Austin Powers was a tribute to my father, who [introduced me to] James Bond, Peter Sellers, The Beatles, The Goodies, Peter Cook, and Dudley Moore.”

The moment he knew that Austin Powers had connected with the public came when he was driving in LA on Halloween after the first film’s release: “I couldn’t get past Santa Monica Boulevard because of a parade, so I sat on the hood of the car and I saw like 15 Austin Powers go by, and one of the Austin Powers spotted me and came over. I had a picture with all these Austin Powers, which was unbelievably cool.”
