Barry Williams is reflecting on the whirlwind fame that came with starring on The Brady Bunch as a teenager.
During the Wednesday, May 20, episode of Billy Corgan‘s The Magnificent Otherspodcast, the actor, 77, opened up about how suddenly becoming recognizable to millions of viewers impacted the lives of the young cast.
“Our lives were changed dramatically by that … and that’s a very profound experience to assimilate with growing up and being a teenager and going through some of that awkwardness and being kind of observed and scrutinized,” Williams said during the podcast.
The beloved ABC sitcom, which aired from 1969 to 1974, drew an estimated 40 million viewers per week at its peak.
Thankfully, Williams, who played Greg, said he and his fellow Brady siblings leaned on one another through it all.
The actor praised costars Christopher Knight, Mike Lookinland, Susan Olsen, Maureen McCormick and Eve Plumb, noting they remained close throughout major life milestones including marriages, divorces and raising children, adding that he is “really grateful to have that with a group that I shared virtually,” Williams shared.
“For the six of us who are still on this planet, [we’re] lifelong friends,” he told People in a Wednesday, May 20 article. “I don’t know, other than my own brothers and sisters and my own blood, there’s nobody whom I’m friends with that is from a deeper [moment], in time.”
