Anyone who has followed the career of Christian Bale knows that the man is willing to do absolutely anything to become his character, even if it requires him to lose a ton of weight for roles in The Machinist  and Rescue Dawn, or gain an absurd amount of weight for his latest role as Dick Cheney in Vice.

While recently at the film’s world premiere at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills, the 44-year-old Oscar winner told reporters just how much he was all about reeling in those pounds. “I had more fun gaining the weight than losing it!” Christian said. Aside from having to gain 40 pounds, Christian also had to shave his head and bleach his eyebrows. And this was to play a former vice president and not young Eminem. While Christian revealed last year to Variety that he prepared for the role of George W. Bush‘s right-hand man by “eating a lot of pies,” earlier this summer he spoke more about the fact that he is not a fan of saying no to food.

“It’s miserable. It’s horrible,” Christian told Esquire. “If you’re losing weight, there’s nothing to it except for going to bed hungry and feeling miserable. [Gaining weight] is the complete opposite. You’re absolutely just losing all discipline and gorging like crazy. I need to stop it, it’s not healthy for your body. I’m in my mid-40s now, it’s going to start catching up with me if I don’t start being a little bit aware of my mortality.”

Vice, which also stars Amy Adams, Steve Carell, and Sam Rockwell, comes out on Christmas Day. Christian can also be currently seen in the Netflix movie Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, where he voices Bagheera, a black panther. Christian didn’t have to mess with his body for that role. Although no word yet if he went and lived in the jungle for a couple of weeks in order to prepare to voice his character.
