Cindy Crawford’s Daughter and Richard Gere’s Son Recreate Their Parents’ Iconic 1992 Vogue Cover

Supermodel Cindy Crawford and acclaimed actor Richard Gere were the “it” couple of the early ’90s. In 1992, the pair’s Vogue cover made fashion history. Fast-forward 34 years, and her daughter (Kaia Gerber) and his son (Homer Gere) are reimagining the iconic shoot with a bold new cover photo for the magazine.

Crawford and Gere reportedly met in 1988 at the home of photographer Herb Ritts. The would-be legendary supermodel was only 21 at the time. Gere (who had already starred in American Gigolo, An Officer and a Gentleman, The Cotton Club, and other famous films) was a much older 38.

Despite the couple’s age gap, they quickly got serious and eloped in 1991. But by 1995 their relationship had soured and the power couple divorced. Crawford went on to briefly date actor Val Kilmer and, in 1998, married entrepreneur Rande Gerber. She and Gerber later had two children: Presley Gerber (born in 1999) and Kaia Gerber (born in 2001).

Meanwhile, Gere welcomed his eldest son, Homer Gere, in 2000 with then-girlfriend actress Carey Lowell. The couple married in 2002 and divorced in 2016. He later married and had two more children with his current wife, Alejandra Silva.

Prior to their divorce, Crawford and Gere famously posed for Vogue’s November 1992 cover. Shot by Herb Ritts, the beachy scene and steamy romance made for headlines at the time.

Thirty-four years later, history is repeating itself. At least, kind of. Even though her daughter and his son aren’t an item, the pair is starring together in Ryan Murphy’s new FX drama The Shards. In honor of the show’s release this month, Gerber and Gere are posing like their famous parents on the latest cover of Vogue!

While the original cover features the then-couple snuggled cheek-to-cheek, the new version is less lovey-dovey. Instead of a romantic seaside shot, the studio pics feature a chummy Gerber and Gere decked out in designer fashions, walking arm-in-arm in a very platonic way.

And if you’re thinking, “Well, of course they’re on the cover of Vogue, they’re both nepo babies,” you aren’t the only one. Kaia told the magazine, “I’ve only ever been a nepo baby, and I’ve only ever benefited in my career from it.”

That said, Crawford’s look-alike daughter has a long history of walking the runways and posing for the camera. She started modeling at age 10. Gere, on the other hand, didn’t follow in his famous father’s footsteps right away. The 26-year-old is still new to acting. His breakout role on Euphoria Season 3 was just a few months ago, making The Shards his first major Hollywood triumph.
