Hallmark Channel’s Heather Hemmens married long-time love Nick Wajda at the couple’s home in Los Angeles over the weekend. The pair, who announced their engagement three months ago, tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in front of family and close friends.
The bride and groom spoke to PEOPLE recently, sharing the details of their August 8th backyard affair. Instead of a who’s who guest list of celeb friends, the couple invited 40 of their nearest and dearest to witness their special occasion.
As for the venue, Hemmens said, “We wanted an intimately detailed celebration, but with no travel or stress.” She continued, “Deciding to get married in our home was the best decision. It really simplified things and has been so fun transforming it into our dream wedding venue!”

The Christmas in My Heart and Texas Two-Step star also talked candidly about her wedding day look — a white off-the-shoulder gown with elegant, intricate lace floral appliqués with a princess-like tulle overskirt. Hemmens admitted, “I was going for something very understated…once I tried on this dress, all that went out the window!”
Nestled in front of a floral arch, Hemmens’ uncle, Winston, officiated as the couple exchanged their own handwritten wedding vows. But of course, the celebration didn’t end there. Guests were treated to a post-ceremony wine tasting station and a menu of Italian favorites (the pair plan on jetting off to Italy for a 12-day honeymoon).
In a unique twist, the newlyweds ditched the traditional multi-tiered frosted cake and chose a “wedding pie.” More specifically, a heart-shaped, strawberry and rhubarb pie. But in something out of a Hallmark Channel romance, the custom creation was ruined during delivery, forcing the pair to quickly order a cake on Postmates.
While this is certainly Hemmens’ happily ever after, it wasn’t the ceremony that affirmed the couple’s commitment or love. Instead, it was “Just an official confirmation.” The new bride revealed to PEOPLE that she “already knew two weeks into dating” that Wajda was her “forever.” She revealed that her husband “makes every moment more fun, intentional and filled with love.”
And what does Wajda say of his Hallmark star wife? “I love how she navigates life’s highs and lows, how she sings in the morning, her curly hair, how candid and funny she is. I feel lucky to know and love all sides of her.”
