Deidre Hall has spent the last few months celebrating an incredible half-century career as the Days of our Lives mainstay who has seen it all. From devil possession and fantastical back-from-the-dead plots to gut-wrenching stories of loss, Hall’s Marlena Evans has led the quintessential soap opera life and the actress has loved every minute of it.

Hall Has Golden Goals

As Hall looked back on the last 50 years at DAYS in an interview with People, she revealed a goal she has yet to achieve.

“Well, an Emmy would be nice,” she said, after telling the outlet that she has no time to retire any time soon and will be sticking around Salem for the foreseeable future.

Indeed, Hall has never taken home a golden statuette through 50 years of memorable, heartwarming, and heartbreaking performances. However, Hall has been nominated for Daytime Emmys three times, once in 1980 for Outstanding Supporting Actress, and again in 1984 and 1985 in the Outstanding Lead Actress category per IMDb.

Despite not winning an Emmy for her work as Marlena, Hall wouldn’t trade the last 50 years for anything.

“When you join a show, you start with a 13-week contract, so all that I thought was, Okay, that’ll be fun,'” Hall told People of when she first landed the role back in 1976. “It was always a happy surprise to be invited back.”

Now, all these years later, Dr. Marlena Evans is the heart and soul of Salem. She is still there as the town psychiatrist and everyone’s favorite confidante, and will even appear as a psychiatrist on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on September 3. Over the last year, Marlena has had to learn to navigate life without her beloved John (Drake Hogestyn), as he passed away last year. Still, Hall is ready for whatever DAYS serves up next.

“I really have a blessed and cherished life,” she said. “I’ll keep coming back as long as my key card still opens the gate.”
